How to Draw a Picture of a Cat

Gather Your Supplies

It’s time to get your supplies ready for your cat drawing! Depending on your preference, you can either draw with a pencil, pen, or marker. You’ll also need some paper – whatever type of paper you feel comfortable with will work. If you don’t have a ruler, you may want to use one to draw straight lines. Lastly, an eraser can be helpful in case you need to erase any lines or mistakes. Gather all of your supplies and lay them out in front of you so they’re easy to access.

Start With the Head

Now that your supplies are ready, you’re ready to start drawing! Begin by drawing the head of your cat. Start by drawing a circle to represent the head. From there, you can draw the ears and eyes. For the ears, make two triangles on each side of the circle, one on top and one on the bottom. For the eyes, draw two circles within the head. Make sure you’re drawing with light strokes, as you can always go back and darken them later.

Draw the Body

From the head, draw the body of your cat. Draw a small oval, slightly curved at the top, to represent the body. This oval should connect with the head, outlining the neck and shoulders of the cat. You can then draw the legs, starting with the front legs and working your way back. Draw four simple lines for the legs, slightly curved at the bottom to represent the feet. Finally, draw the tail – make it curvy, long, or short, depending on the type of cat you’re drawing.

Add Details

Now it’s time to add your cat’s details. For the eyes, draw two small circles within the larger circles you drew before. Inside the small circles, draw a dot or a line to represent the iris. For the nose and mouth, draw a small triangle for the nose and a “U” shape for the mouth. To make the cat look realistic, draw whiskers by making a few small lines extending from the nose. You can also draw a few tufts of fur on the cat’s head and a few lines on the paws.

Color Your Cat

Once you’ve finished drawing your cat, you can choose to color it in. If you’re using a pencil or pen, you can use colored pencils, crayons, or markers to fill in the drawing. Pick whatever colors you like best and have fun coloring your cat! You can also use a white crayon or chalk to add highlights to your cat’s fur. This will make it look more realistic. If you want, you can also draw a background for your cat – draw a sky, some trees, or a house.

Erase Any Mistakes

Once you’ve finished coloring your cat, take a look at the drawing and make sure that everything looks the way you want it to. If there are any mistakes, use your eraser to erase them. Make sure that all of the lines are crisp and clear. If you’re using a pencil, you can go over the lines with a pen or marker to make them stand out more.

Sign Your Artwork

Congratulations! You’ve finished your drawing of a cat! Now it’s time to sign your artwork. This step is optional, but it’s a great way to show that you created the drawing. Choose a spot on the paper to sign your name and the date. You can also write a short message or a dedication if you want. Once you’ve signed your drawing, you’re done!

Show Off Your Drawing

Now that your drawing is finished, you can show it off to your friends and family. You can hang it up on the wall, put it in a frame, or just place it on the refrigerator.
